Case Study  ·  Ministry

Sea Change
Church.

Sea Change is a 100-year-old church in La Jolla going through real growth. It started as a site rebuild. Six months later I was doing the work a full-time digital director would do, without the overhead of the hire.

480+ Sermons archived — audio, transcript and metadata for each
20 Ministry teams planning on one shared platform
5+ Custom tools built and in active use
6 Months from first engagement to the results below
The situation

Where things
stood.

Churches that have been around this long accumulate. Staff come and go, tools get added, content piles up, and nobody is responsible for the whole picture because it was never anybody's job. Growth is what makes it visible: more people need to find things, and the things aren't findable.

Sea Change didn't need a website. They needed someone to look at the whole digital situation and then build what was missing.

The work

Four things that
changed.

01

The archive nobody could use

Recordings went back to 2014, but nothing was findable. I cataloged every sermon with its audio, a transcript, and metadata. More than a decade of preaching is now a library staff and members can search.

02

Content into resources

Once the archive was usable, it was raw material. We turned years of teaching into eBooks and discipleship resources the church owns outright.

03

Tools built for how the staff works

A ministry planning platform now carries all twenty teams through the annual calendar, alongside personal discipleship apps. I built them around how the staff already works instead of asking them to adopt someone else's software.

04

The unglamorous parts

Staff AI policy, giving analytics, and a spiritual health self-assessment. None of it was urgent when we started, which is the best time to do it.

In their words

"More recently, I brought Brent on as the technology and AI partner for Sea Change Church. In just six months, his impact has been remarkable. He has helped us build personal discipleship apps, organize and categorize more than 500 sermons into a usable digital library, and transform years of content into eBooks, discipleship resources, and other practical tools.

But Brent's greatest contribution goes far beyond technology. He has helped our entire staff operate as a more synchronized team, aligned around a shared vision and moving in the same direction. Using AI, technology, and systems thinking, Brent has helped us turn vision into executable strategy — and, just as importantly, created tools that keep that vision on track.

I cannot recommend Brent more strongly as a strategic partner for any organization looking to align its people around a common vision and build the systems and tools necessary to accomplish it."

If this sounds familiar

Where this
usually starts.

Engagements like this one start with a conversation about what the organization actually has. That's the Ministry Digital Diagnostic — 90 minutes and a two-page written summary covering your tech stack, your archive, your vendor exposure, and the two or three things worth doing first. $750 flat, no retainer required.
